Pr Eng, B Eng (Electronic), MBA
Mich started his career in the petrochemical industry with Polifin and the defence industry with Thales, before joining PSG Investment Bank in 1999. In 2003, he joined Siemens Business Services, where he gained international experience across Europe. Mich joined Square One Group in 2005 where he was responsible for group operations. In 2008, Mich teamed up with Botha Schabort. He worked on the Eden Island Project and mining operations in West Africa before focusing on the expansion of SAGIT Energy Ventures, a renewable energy developer.

Clive has more than 25 years' experience in corporate and project finance. He was a founding Director of Fieldstone Holdings SARL. Over the last 15 years he worked extensively in Africa on energy and infrastructure-related projects. These include Cahora Bassa hydro power station, Metrogas, a coal-fired Kelvin power station, various Ugandan generation and distribution assets, the Ibom power plant in Nigeria, a bio-ethanol grown energy project in Mozambique, Kariba North Bank Power extension project in Zambia and the development of a new IPP in Ghana
Leon de Wit

Leon started at Sanlam Limited, and then spent most of his career offering consulting services to many of the largest retirement funds in South Africa. He joined PSG Group Limited in its early years and was responsible for Channel Life Limited. In 2002, he left formal employment and moved to a wine farm in Stellenbosch where he engages in special projects and community development programmes. Leon and Botha Schabort have worked on funding of renewable energy projects by South African institutions since 2011, culminating in the establishment of GAIA Infrastructure Partners (Pty) Limited in 2012.

Botha started as a civil engineer specialising in project management and construction. After obtaining an MBA he joined JSE-listed stockbroker Senekal Mouton and Kitshoff where he later served as Director. Botha was a founding shareholder and Director of the JSE-listed PSG Group Limited and PSG Investment Bank Holdings Limited, where he was Managing Director until 2000. Botha has extensive investment experience in the areas of international property development, renewable energy projects, mining exploration, private equity and technology. Along with Leon de Wit, he founded GAIA Infrastructure Partners (Pty) Limited in 2012. He is a Director of various companies.

Matthew returned to South Africa post his degree in 1994 to join Allan Gray as a bond & futures trader and has since then analysed Investment markets and managed portfolio for pension fund, unit trust and hedge fund investors at Southern Asset Management, PSG Investment Bank, Frater Asset Management (then E.I.M). He was first recognized as an Investment Manager by the FSB in 1998 before working closely with both Mich and Botha at PSG Investment bank for 5 years. He is now Principle Investor at NineXi Capital and advises local and international corporates on fund raising and investments. He has been working with Gaia since 2014 and was appointed KI in 2016.

Hendrik is a qualified Industrial Engineer with Masters degrees in both Engineering and Corporate Finance. Hendrik started his career in the private equity industry in 2010 developing various mining and farming ventures before embarking on a Ph.D. in Strategy focusing on the use of Venture Capital to accelerate SME growth and development. As part of his studies Hendrik taught finance and economics and published a number of papers. Hendrik joined Gaia IP in 2016 contributing his skills related to finance, management and general engineering.

Renier is an actuary by training and has spent 12 years with the Sanlam Group where he held various roles in the mergers and acquisitions, product development, valuations and financial reporting divisions. He spent the bulk of his time in Sanlam Emerging Markets where he conducted mergers and acquisitions across the African Continent and in India. Renier is the Managing Director of GAIA Private Equity.

Ismael has extensive experience in the Asset Management industry specialising in Collective Investment Schemes, Retirement and Endowment Funds as well as Listed Property Funds. Ismael joined GAIA in October 2016. His current responsibilities include management of the group finance function and fund-raising for secondary market infrastructure deals. Previously, his roles included being the head of treasury, finance manager, supervisor in investment administration and fund accounting in a well-established Cape Town based Asset Management firm.

Jarno obtained his undergraduate degrees at the University of Stellenbosch focussing on commerce and commercial law. Early on in his career he joined the legal department of a prominent private equity group in Cape Town where he gained experience in general commercial legal advisory, corporate finance, deal structuring and investor relations. During this time he lectured part time at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Faculty of Business. After completing an MBA at the University of Cape Town, he joined the deal team of a listed private equity fund as legal counsel and managed legal aspects of various financing rounds, acquisitions and investment holdings. Jarno joined the deal team of GAIA IP in 2017 focussing on sourcing of assets, and the structuring and execution of infrastructure deals.

Douglas completed his Honours in Applied Mathematics at the University of Stellenbosch in 2012. He then began his career in the financial industry at RisCura in 2013, working as a risk and performance analyst for hedge fund and pension fund clients. While at RisCura he completed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) curriculum, and in 2017 became a CFA Charterholder. Douglas joined Gaia in 2017 and brings with him experience in risk analytics.
Tumi started his career in various corporate divisions of a major Industrialist company on the JSE where he gained experience in Finance, Treasury, Commercial Law and General Operational Compliance. Tumi joined Gaia IP in 2016 contributing his skills relating to Legal due diligences, Accounting and Finance and Reporting.
